A. ECOTOURISM PROGRAMMES FOR THE AREAS CONTAINING MEDIEVAL AND ETNOFOLKLORE ARCHITECTURE ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF THE SIBIU

program_ecoturism_01a) The organization This programme is organized by Valea Cibinului (The Cibin Valley) park rangers of Sibiu under the aegis of The National Administration of the Forests. The programme addresses mainly to the foreign tourists who have understood both the necessity of activities based on the protection & preservation of the medieval vestiges, as well as the necessity of recreating themselves in a natural environment of great diversity and purity. The programme lasts for 4 days and is eligible for goups of 4 to 10 persons.

  • The “Tocile” Cabin (4 stars) – the centre of information by means of images and documents about the area that is to be covered during the programme;
  • The “Împaratul Romanilor” restaurant (The Roman Emperor Restaurant) – a private pension offering board and lodging at modern standards;
  • Field equipment (means of transport etc.);
  • Media equipment.


program_ecoturism_03c) The steps of the programme The programme is structured in such a manner so that it comprises the most important objectives to visit, and that the tourist may be well informed about the medieval area of Sibiu.







DAY I


  • The tourists are accommodated at the Tocile Cabin. Documents and images on the Sibiu county and the patrimony values are presented here;
  • The routes and objectives that are to be covered are presented;
  • The forestry species and ornaments of Tocile nursery are presented;
  • Lunch;
  • After a short walk in Cisnadie and Cisnadioara, the medieval fortresses and “Piatra Broastei” (The Frog’s Stone), a natural monument, on «Valea de Argint» (Silver Valley) are to be visited;
  • Return to the Tocile Cabin for supper and to visit the surroundings on the paths of the forest.


DAY II
  • Tript to Sibiu to visit The Astra Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization from Dumbrava, the medieval fortress, the museums (at option): The Natural Sciences Museum, The History Museum, The Pharmacy Museum, The Hunting Arms and Trophies Exhibition, “Emil Sigerus” Transylvanian Saxon Ethnography Museum, “Fr. Binder” Universal Ethnography Museum, The Folk Art Galleries etc. Lunch at “Împaratul Romanilor” Restaurant. Return on another route (through Cisnadioara to The Tocile Cabin) where supper is served.

DAY III
  • Trip to Marginimea Sibiului (The Outskirts of Sibiu) to visit the memorial houses of Goga and Cioran in Rasinari, through Gura Râului (The Mouth of the River), Orlat, and The Glass Icons Museum in Sibiel, Vale and Saliste where lunch is served at an agrotouristic pension. Visit to the Sculptures in “Poiana Soarelui” (The Sun’s Clearing), and the Dacian vestiges from Tilisca, Rod, Poiana. Return to the private pension where supper is served.

  • Excursions by carts or sleighs to The Hydroelectric Power Plant in Sadu;
  • The farewell party with broiled ram and a camp fire.

d) Costs:

The cost of such a complete programme is 230€ for persons.
